The Next Generation of Laser Skin Resurfacing in SaJune
What is eMatrix™ / Sublative Rejuvenation?
eMatrix™ laser skin resurfacing is an FDA-cleared treatment that gently resurfaces the skin over 4 to 5 treatments. It tightens loose surface skin, improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of mild to moderate wrinkles, acne scarring and abdominal stretch marks. It also tightens pores and brightens the skin.
The secret to eMatrix™ / Sublative Rejuvenation is the “Radio Frequency” energy used and how that energy is delivered. During treatment, intense heat is generated under the surface of the skin without disrupting the skin’s surface in the process; (downtime is approximately 48 hours with mild roughness remaining for 3 to 5 days—make-up can be applied after the first 48 hours). eMatrix™ stimulates collagen and elastin production in the deep layers of the skin resulting in a tighter, smoother, more refined and brighter appearance to areas treated. Results continue over 3-5 months after the final treatment and can be maintained annually.
How does Sublative Rejuvenation Work?
To achieve the best possible results, the energy, whether laser or light, must be delivered below the skin without overheating the top layer of the skin. This has been the challenge with other more aggressive treatments because they work by overheating the top layer of the skin to the point of complete ablation (removal), forcing new skin to develop.
Sublative Rejuvenation uses fractionated bi-polar radio frequency to penetrate through the skin, sending more energy beneath the surface of the skin to maximize collagen production, all while keeping the top layer of the skin intact. This is an important factor in why it’s safe for all skin types and requires less downtime than other treatment methods for the skin to heal.
How do I know if I need Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix™ Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Patients looking to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity or scarring with minimal downtime are good candidates for this procedure. You should not have Sublative Rejuvenation if you are pregnant or have been on Accutane within the past 6 months. In addition, patients with pacemakers, internal defibrillators, or metal implants in the area of concern should not have these treatments. Patients who have diabetes, autoimmune disease, history of cold sores or have had injectable fillers in the area to be treated (need to wait one month after fillers) should let us know before having Sublative Rejuvenation.
How does Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix™ Laser Skin Resurfacing work?
Sublative Rejuvenation is a non-invasive treatment that does not require injections. The laser stimulates the patient’s collagen to remodel and restructure and does not rely on temporary substance filler.
What benefits can I expect from Sublative Rejuvenation?
Patients can expect a noticeable reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and acne and other scarring. Patients can also see an improvement in texture and skin laxity. On average, most results appear over a period of three to six months (it takes time for collagen to grow), but some patients notice results immediately after treatment.
What are the risks and side effects from Sublative Resurfacing/eMatrix™?
The procedure can be uncomfortable, although this is minimized by the topical anesthetic that is put on the skin before the treatment for 30 minutes. Expected side effects are redness and swelling after the procedure that lasts from hours to days, and occasionally even up to a week or beyond (very unusual). Any resurfacing procedure can result in a scar or infection, although this is exceedingly rare. We have not experienced any darkening or lightening of the skin as a result of eMatrix™, although theoretically, this is possible.
How will I look and feel during and after Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix™ Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Most patients have redness and swelling for a few hours to 3 days after the treatment (occasionally it can last longer). You may apply make-up to the treated area immediately after the Sublative rejuvenation procedure. Tiny crusts develop and are present for about 5-14 days, but these are easy to camouflage with makeup or even without it after the first one to two days. Results will develop over time and with subsequent treatments. Full results can be appreciated at three to six months following the last treatment. Maintenance treatments may be necessary.
What makes Sublative Rejuvenation different?
Patients today desire aggressive treatments for face-lift type results yet do not want the weeks to even months of downtime associated with those treatments. Aggressive treatments also come with limitations on the range of skin types it can treat due to the high-risk in skin discoloration. Sublative Rejuvenation is an aggressive treatment that delivers optimal efficiency, minimal downtime and is safe for all skin types.
How many treatments do I need?
When can I expect to see eMatrix results?
What are typical Sublative Rejuvenation results?
Post treatment, patients notice increased levels of beneficial collagen and new healthy skin cells are produced. Mild to moderate wrinkles and superficial skin discolorations are reduced, and the texture of your skin becomes smoother and more elastic.
What is the downtime for Sublative Rejuvenation?
Sublative Rejuvenation offers significant results with little to no downtime. The first two days post treatment, most patients report mild redness. During the first two-to-five days post treatment, many patients also report mild dryness and flaking as the older layers of skin exfoliate. Many patients utilize unscented and hypoallergenic cosmetics to cover any mild redness immediately post treatment and return to regular activities.
What does eMatrix feel like?
During treatment, many patients feel a warm, prickly sensation. Sensations are like the snap of a rubber band. After treatment, a pink or red “sunburn” appearance and feeling is also common. Topical anesthetic ointments and cooling are used to reduce unpleasant sensations during treatment.
